abil-colour-wash

Long-life, high performance, weather-durable, water-based variable intensity architectural colouring paint / stain for exterior and interior surfaces.

Product overview:

abil-colour-wash is a member of Ability Building Chemical Co’s range of high performance, long life Paints. It is a high quality, water-based, two-pack but easy one step preparation, pigmented coating that has been specifically developed to provide a long-lasting semi-transparent ‘wash-like’ and variable colour stain for a wide range of external and internal surfaces and material types.

Supplied in ready-to-mix powder form, abil-colour-wash is available in a range of 60 standard colours (ranging from ‘natural earth’ colours through to vibrant pastels) at a variety of colour mix intensities. abil-colour-wash is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, and thanks to the use of Ability Building Chemicals’ colourfast abilox® mineral oxide pigments and this most durable formulation, is both UV and weather resistant - providing maximum longevity.

Easy and safe to use, abil-colour-wash powder, which is safe to use indoors and safe to store, is mixed into the specified proportion of water to become a non toxic, low odour, totally paintable non-combustible product. It contains no lead or other dangerous heavy metals and has extremely low volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). abil-colour-wash also conforms to strict ESD (Environmentally Sustainable Development) principals.

Abil colour wash also assists in providing sound deadening and thermal insulation to help maintain an even internal temperature.

Ecologically sustainable development:

It’s a versatile - almost universal, strong in adhesion, hard but flexible wear resistant, safe for the user and safe for the environment paint that is completely free of noxious solvent fumes, contains extremely low VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and it does not emit climate warming greenhouse gasses.

Usage and application:

Supplied in ready-to-use, single-part powder form, once mixed into water at the recommended rate, abil-colour-wash is generally applied using normal painting methods, including appropriate paint spraying equipment, brushes or rollers. For variable / antique ‘patina’ colour effects, the surface can also be ‘dabbed’ and/or ‘smeared’ on with a suitable sponge. abil-colour-wash should be applied at a coverage rate of approximately 5-6m2/litre to the prepared surface, which should be non-dusting, firm, sound clean and dampened with drinkable water.

For a long-lasting, durable job, a minimum of two coats are recommended - each having a dry (and wet) film thickness of 150μm - 200μm to give a total coating thickness of 300μm - 400μm. The water is the reactant and is not an evaporating solvent and therefore there is no reduction in the film thickness like normal paints.

For optimum results, abil-colour-wash should be cured and hardened by means of an intermittent, regular water spray-curing (5-6 times for 10-12 minutes over 48 hours) commencing, depending on the weather, approximately 2 hours after the applied coat is ‘touch-dry’. When water spray-cured, abil-colour-wash is fully-cured and absolutely watertight approximately 25 hours after application.

Recommended mixing proportions for abil-colour-wash are 2 parts abil-colour-wash powder to 1 part clean potable (drinking) water by volume.
